Since i last posted i have been a busy busy worker bee. Not with packing but helping my friend Chef Corli with the opening of her new restaurant - Long Table.
It was loads of fun for me, and a very stressful time for Corli. She had new staff to train in the kitchen, the till never arrived as promised by the supplier, and the final touch ups was still in progress. Glasses had to be polished, tables needed setting, the bar needed stocking and she had a booking for 10 people for breakfast on the day of opening.
Friday 16 April, the soft opening day. I was only going to help with the opening day, but soon realised that she would only have one waiter on Saturday, and volunteered to help again. It's been more than 20 years since I left the waitering profession and by nightfall i thought my feet were going to fall to pieces. I was so psyched with the fact that i have’nt entirely forgotten how to be a fairly good waitress and remembered to put a cup on a saucer, that i went home, had a glass of wine and settled in for a good nights rest. and recuperate for another day of waitering. Never in our wildest dreams did we think that we were going to be so busy on the Saturday. While we were on a roll we decided to head hunt a couple of friends and family for Sunday lunch buffet. We managed to fill the book with 40 people. We had to get more waitrons and phoned more friends. Only after everybody had lunch and dessert did we have time to sit and chat to everybody. What a glorious day. The opening weekend was a great success, and Corli can now carry on on her own. I will surely go an help again. I have missed being a waitress, after all, long ago that was my profession of choice for almost 5 years.

For three days i forgot about the boxes and stuff that still needed packing at home, but i had loads of fun. It's Wednesday now and my legs and feet have almost recovered from the shock and the reality of the big move has settled in once more.
Yesterday we eventually signed the rental contract. So [!] now it's all systems go.
